I’ve been reading a lot of the corebooks (there’s four) for Invisible Sun RPG. And as I read, I notice a few things.
1) There is a lot of gnosticism in this book. The idea of Demiurge, the world being somehow unreal. You may ask? So what? Well, gnosticism was a erroneous belief system that “secret knowledge” would make you a super-Christian, that there was another level to Christianity that these “secrets” could grant you. 1, 2, and 3 John as well portions of 1 and 2 Peter and Jude refute gnosticism and warn of its dangers.
2) occultism- Secret knowledge again. Except that these secrets are lies. They’re like delicious morsels of gossip, but they’re poisonous. Eve was tempted by “special knowledge” remember? And the knowledge of good and evil brought her no joy.
3)Luciferianism-The players here direct their characters’ arcs. They’re the prime movers, the captains of their own vessels. This fits with the “Left-handed path”, rampant ego and pleasing of our selfish desires. And did you notice? The Testament of Suns? It’s left-handed. We talk about coincidence in this game. I don’t think this is a coincidence.
Now, contrast this with God’s Son. He was seen by thousands, his crucifixion witnessed by hundreds if not a few thousand, and his resurrection by his disciples, first by the women, then the apostles, and the faithful disciples. At one point he was seen by 500 people at once. You will ask,”That would be quite the hallucation. 500 people seeing the same thing? Now that’s impossible,” But God is the God of the impossible. He creates the universe ex nihilo (from nothing). He hangs the stars and planets and galaxies and nebula in space. And while we’re on it, how can a person look at the stars in their splendor? How can a person look at anything sublime or beautiful in creation and say,”This is the work of an inferior creator”!?
But I have more evidence still: my testimony. Jesus radically altered my life and personality when He entered my heart. I was an angry lonely little boy. I would get mad at my parents for things that I had done. I would have friends over, and after they went home, I felt so empty. I despaired. And not in a good way, that' was conducive to character development. But then Mom started taking me to church. At some point I started listening, and I reasoned thus: “If God, will adopt me,I will not be fatherless, and I will have many brothers and sisters in Christ,” So, one night, while kneeling on my bed, I made The Transaction. Or perhaps God made it on my behalf. Maybe both. I still don’t entirely understand it. But I was changed. The despair melted like a gloomy cloud in midday heat. And the anger just evaporated. I mean, totally gone.
Now, I imagine you have a problem. A problem in your life you can’t solve. You might try a million different strategies: self-medication, addiction, immorality, whatever. Jesus can fix that problem for you. That thing that brings you to your knees can bring you to the feet of Christ. He will save your soul, forgive you of your sin, but you must submit to Him as Lord, promising to obey Him and follow His direction. You will mess up, but if you are filled with His Spirit, led by Him, walk in Him, you will find the journey much more pleasant. It may be heart-wrenching at times, or filled with pain, but you will endure. Because at that point, “Greater is He than is in you, than He who is in the world,” Because He lives, you will live.
I know roleplay seems good, that it’s pleasurable. But ultimately it won’t satisfy you. Money, power, sex, entertainment, career, nothing has any meaning apart from Christ. Because we were created, ”By Him and for Him,”
I want you to remember my story. I want you to understand that Jesus is the Answer. He is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life,” and no one comes to the Father apart from Him.
And as for what powers our body, our lives. I can make the argument that “the invisible sun” is just our liver, that stores and releases glucose as needed to power our body, in particular our brain, that uses 1/4 to 1/3 of that sugar.
But what really empowers us is Jesus. And once you tap into Jesus, you find yourself to be like a little flower. The sun is big, powerful, strong. But the flower, lifting its leaves to the sun, gets all the warmth and energy it needs. The sun’s resources are so much greater than the needs of the flower. The sun gives warmth and life to every flower. Christ gives life to all who call on His Name in faith. But He can give you life, if you call on His Name in faith. “For without faith it is impossible to please God,”
If you want Jesus, in your own words, pray honestly and earnestly to Him. You are a sinner, you thank Jesus for his death on the cross and resurrection, ask Him to forgive you and come into your heart, and pledge to serve and obey Him, and/or follow Him as Lord. You will begin a journey with an eternal destination. Will life be easier than it was before? No, but it will be bearable this way, and you will endure and overcome. “As for the one who overcomes, he will sit with Me on My throne, as I overcame and sat down on my Father’s throne,”
Hope that helps.
