So, my Mom was a single Mom. I was an only child. Life wasn’t easy for us a lot of times. But my Mema was a big part of my life before she passed away in 2013. What, you think your grandma is cooler? I don’t think so, and here’s why.
1) Mema was almost in the FBI-Mema was a crack shot. So much so that she almost got recruited into the FBI. I don’t know many more details, but I’m guessing she chose a quieter, simpler life. While I mean no disrespect, I think she was afraid/intimidated by the possilbilty of that life.
2) Mema played in the Grand Old Opry once. She was in a country and western band most of her adult life, and she had a song entitled, ”Seven Beers and the Wrong Kind of Man,” which she performed there. We all have dreams, and many of them, for most of us, stay dreams. But she did accomplish that.
3) Mema had a manuscript for a dirty joke book- I’m not sure who would’ve published it, but these days it probably would have quite a following. The only joke I remember is,” What time is it when a dog is in heat? (pause) Three after one.
Mema was a deeply flawed, beautiful human being. But my one regret, although I believe she accepted Christ, is that I never made sure, I never double-checked, never shared the gospel with her. That’s probably one of my greatest regrets, although God has healed that wound mostly. But it still leaves a scar. And that’s why, if I know you, if I really like you, you will hear my testimony and the gospel at least once from me. If you say you’re uninterested, that’s fine. I won’t share it with you again. But I won’t have that regret if something happens to my friends. But that’s probably the start of an article for another day.
