Some say.. But what does the bible say?

Some people talk about advantages people have, whether from birth, social standing, or whatever is useful or helpful. They say those things are bad, and we should feel guilty for having them.

However, what does the bible say?

Proverbs

“The rich and poor have this in common; the Lord has made them both”

I’m reminded of a story in which a man had to give up his son because he could not raise him. So God offered to take him. However, the man said,”You only care about the rich,” (not knowing, suggests the book in which it is found, that the Lord is sovereign, and he gives as He sees fit)

Then the devil comes to adopt the son. The man says,”No, you are evil,” and the devil departs.

Then Death comes to take the boy, and for a reason I can no longer recall, the man says that he can raise him.

So there’s a mistake in the man’s thinking. We shouldn’t envy the rich, nor scorn them. Rich people have it a lot harder when it comes to their relationship with God. Why? Because they trust in their ability to solve their problems with finances. They don’t have needs, and their wants become needs. This leads to boredom, frustration, being without purpose, and even sleeplessness (after all, who sleeps better than the one who has worked all day?)

What about people that use their advantages for good and for God’s glory? Think about Esther, who used her position as Queen of Persia (with Mordecai’s help, and of course, the LORD’s), to save her people from destruction? Or what about Paul? He often used his citizenship so that people would listen to him, and thus hear the gospel.

You’ve shouldn’t feel bad or good about things you didn’t earn, except for one thing, “Let Him who boasts, boast in the Lord,” and Galatians 6:14 “May I never boast except in the cross of our LORD Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

We can all boast that somehow, God deemed us worthy of the sacrifice of Jesus. We can all say, ”I have value, because God loves me, because He paid an infinite price for me and all humanity,”

I think people think that some people are more valuable, or more worthy than others, perhaps. But Christ died for all. There’s no one outside the reach of His grace that still breathes. Humans have value because they were made in God’s image, something that people don’t seem to believe, at least not fully. Otherwise we wouldn’t say a woman has “the right to choose” what happens to her body. I will say, if it’s her body, why is it’s DNA 50% of another human being? However, that’s not my topic today, and if I let it be, I will quickly digress.

So, if God’s gifted you with things that others don’t have, even if they are burdens or hardships, know that He can use them for His glory. And isn’t that what matters? 99.999% of us are pawns on the chess board of history, regardless of any benefit or perceived deficiency. So let’s refocus, realize that we all bleed red, that we all shed tears, that we are born and all die. Let’s not just unite our nation, or somehow revive it’s glory. Let’s focus on sharing the gospel, and the things which are eternal, for.. as Job said, ”Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return. Blessed be the Name of the LORD!”

Give God the glory. His Word, through whom and for whom He made everything, endures forever!
